Elm Leaf Beetle Control

These problematic beetles are commonly found in southern Tasmania and can cause significant damage to all types of elm trees. Both the adult and larvae beetles are known to decimate foliage, which reduces the vigor and health of a tree, leaving it susceptible to secondary infections.

Our elm leaf beetle control solutions involve several treatment options that can ultimately stop elm leaf beetles from taking hold in your trees. One simple method is to apply an adhesive layer of tape around the base of the trunk to trap larvae as they migrate down the stem.

We can also utilise soil injections, which involves applying dissolved insecticide into the soil around the base of your tree. The tree then takes up this water and transports it to the leaves, killing beetles and larvae as they feed. Or stem injection, which is generally considered as the best and most long-lasting treatment. Stem infection involves drilling small holes around the tree’s lower stem, and directly injecting insecticide into the holes. It is then transported to the leaves where it kills the feeding beetles. With this treatment option, there is little negative effect on the surrounding area, or non-target species of flora and fauna, as the insecticide is injected into the tree, not the soil.

Get in touch and we can arrange a site visit to inspect and diagnose your elm leaf beetle issues, before proposing a suitable course of action.
